The second Halloween event run by
AirbossWorld, unlike last year the main event was a boarder cross
competition which took place on Sunday, which I couldn’t stay for as I
had other plans! Saturday was just a freeride event and the forecast
was looking good so I headed down nice and early to make the most of
the day!
On arrival it was still a bit wet from the showers over
night and the wind hadn’t kicked in yet so there was quite a lot of
waiting around to start with! I pumped up my 12.5 Ion ready for the
conditions to change-, which they did! It was soon 15mph and good
weather for hitting the kicker they had there. Its been a while since I
handlepassed after my injury but I was still going for some big flat 3
grabs, Backmobes, Blind Judges etc.
From about 1pm onwards the weather really turned on us! The
wind strength went up so much and the gusts were unreal! There were
plans to now run a small 15minute jam for all the freestylers at the
event! I changed down to my 8.5 Ion this time and went out for a minute
to try and dial back into the kite, as I had not flown it for about 5
months now! As far as I was aware the competition was for who ever
could do the one best trick during the 15 minutes! After 15 minutes of
trying to land all my handlepasses (landing some but crashing a lot
too) the competition was finished and the winners announced!
The crazy thing was that the actual judging criteria was
totally different to what I was riding too! 1st
place went for riding the smoothest, most consistent rider with the
best tricks, which I obviously had no chance after crashing nearly more
times than I landed! I come a well-placed 3rd
with Ally Beaven and Joe Hockley who both rode extremely well finishing
1st and 2nd.
Anyway I’ll try to be back up there next time for the UK
championships held by the BKSA next year.
