After a weeks worth of notice, myself and Craig Sparkes headed over to Belguim to join other members of the Flexifoil team for the Passport to Heaven kite event! We left late Friday via the Euro Tunnel and arrived on Saturday in the early hours of the morning! After a few hours sleep, we woke up to gorgeous blue skies but no wind at all, which is kind of what we expected, so we took advantage of this situation and went for a longboard around the town to check out what was on offer. When we arrived back at the event, the beach and surrounding area was completely packed out with visitors to the event! All we needed now was some wind to show them what we could do with a kite and our boards and buggies!
Around 12pm there was signs of a sea breeze, so we set up and waited for it to come! Luckily it arrived a few hours later and we got the beach cleared ready to do a small demonstration. I took out a 14.5 Ion 4 which pulls like a train no matter how windy it is! I was soon landing loads of tricks, such as back to blinds, Nuclears to blind, underpowered Kiteloop 3’s but generally riding ok considering the wind. After an a few hours riding we called it a day and headed to a cool little bar where we spent the rest of the night.
Unfortunatly, Sunday started with no wind at all, and this time with no signs of any wind coming through. We had little else to do other than enjoy the sunshine and chill out on the beach. Which is always a nice thing to do but I was really in the mood for a good kite session which was a shame! After the event we had to make our way home knowing Mondays forecast looked perfect but I still had an amazing weekend and I would like to thank Pete at Mellow and Flexifoil for their support in getting us to the event and back.
